Answering service for Chicago contractors
For Chicago heating, plumbing, electrical and roofing contractors: an assistant that answers on the coldest nights, raises the calls where someone vulnerable is without heat, and introduces itself the way Illinois law expects.

The short answer
A Chicago contractor's hardest calls come on the coldest nights, and the worst of them involve somebody vulnerable in a house without heat. An answering service here should answer overnight, recognise no heat and the words that say who is at risk, and get the address down exactly, unit included. The assistant does that and raises those calls first. It also introduces itself as an AI that takes notes, which is what Illinois's eavesdropping law turns on.
What is different about Chicago
- O'Hare averages 122 nights a year at or below freezing, and its average January low is about 16.5°F. A Chicago heating contractor's busiest week is a polar-vortex week, and in that week the calls arrive overnight from houses that are getting colder by the hour.
- The heating configuration raises a call as an emergency on no heat, and also on elderly, newborn and infant. In a Chicago January the same broken furnace is a different call when there is a grandparent in the house, and the words are how the software knows.
- The Illinois eavesdropping statute applies to recording done in a surreptitious manner without everyone's consent. An assistant that opens by saying it is an AI and that it takes notes is doing the reverse, and no audio is recorded at all.
- Roofing in the Chicago metro is 768 establishments, 83 percent with fewer than ten staff. Ice dams and spring storms bring roofing calls in bursts, and a small roofer on a ladder is the one least able to answer them.

A deep-freeze call from a two-flat
- During a January deep freeze a woman in a Chicago two-flat calls because her mother's unit downstairs has no heat.
- The assistant answers with its disclosure and asks who is calling and what is going on.
- She says no heat and mentions her elderly mother, two emergency words, so the lead is raised before she finishes.
- It asks for the address, including which unit, and a number to call back, and reads both back.
- The emergency text follows, and your on-call tech sees a raised lead with the address, the unit and the reason it is urgent.
What a Chicago caller receives
emergency ack
Hi Dana, Northgate Heating has your message and is treating it as urgent. If this is a gas leak or emergency, call 911.
On a sub-zero night the caller mostly needs to know the call landed. This says so in one line and gives the gas instruction, since most Chicago furnaces burn gas.
appointment reminder
Redline Plumbing is booked for Tuesday at 9:00 AM. Please clear access under the sink or tank. Reply if anything changed.
After a freeze the follow-up visits are about pipes in basements and under sinks. Clearing them the night before keeps a tight thaw-week schedule on time.
Questions Chicago contractors ask
- Will it panic a caller with a sick relative and no heat?
- It stays calm and practical: who, what, where, and a number. The urgency is handled on your side, where the lead is raised, rather than by telling the caller how serious it sounds.
- What if callers want a person at 2am?
- The assistant says plainly that it is an AI and that somebody will call back. If you want a person on nights, set your own on-call phone to ring first and let the assistant take only what that phone misses.
- Can it cover our Indiana customers too?
- Yes. The area you serve is a setting, and the assistant answers the same way whichever side of the state line the caller is on.
