Answering service for Ohio contractors
For Ohio heating, plumbing, electrical and roofing businesses, from a company that is one: built in Ohio, for winters that bring around a hundred freezing nights, by people who file the carrier registrations themselves.
Written by Christopher Gillig, who files the carrier registrations behind these numbers and configures the assistants. Last reviewed October 6, 2026.
The short answer
We are an Ohio company, and the answering service we built is the one we would want for an Ohio contractor. Firms here tend to be larger and to have an office, so the calls they miss bunch up after hours and at busy moments; the assistant can be set to answer only those. Winters bring roughly a hundred freezing nights, so no heat and frozen pipes are emergency words. Ohio lets one party record, but the assistant records no audio and announces its notes regardless.

What is different about Ohio
- Ohio's plumbing and HVAC establishments average almost 13 staff, the most of the ten largest states, and only 71 percent have fewer than ten. Its electrical shops follow the same pattern. Ohio trades firms tend to have an office, which means the missed calls are concentrated after hours, at lunch, and when the office is already on another line.
- Ohio has about one roofing establishment for every three plumbing and HVAC ones, the highest ratio of the ten largest states. Lake-effect snow, spring storms and a long freeze-thaw season give roofers steady work, and a roofing company's phone matters here more than it does in New York or Michigan.
- Cleveland averages 104 nights at or below freezing and Columbus 98. Furnace and frozen-pipe calls start in November and run into March, and the heating configuration raises no heat and frozen pipes as emergencies whenever they appear.
- We are an Ohio business ourselves, registered in Fremont and working around Sandusky. Setup is done by us, by hand, for each business, and the person you speak to when something is wrong is the person who configured it.
A Sunday night furnace call in Cleveland
- A Cleveland homeowner's furnace stops on a Sunday night in February. Your office is closed and your on-call tech is on another job.
- The assistant answers with its disclosure, asks who is calling, and hears no heat in the first sentence.
- The lead is raised as an emergency and the assistant takes the address and a number to call back on, reading both back.
- If furnace repairs are bookable, it offers the first free time Monday; if they are not, it says somebody will be in touch and leaves everything on the lead.
- Your tech or office sees the full lead first thing, including the exact words the caller used.
What an Ohio caller receives
missed call textback
This is Northgate Heating, sorry we missed your call. What is going on, and where are you? Reply here, or BOOK to book.
For an Ohio shop with an office, this covers the gap between five o'clock and the morning, which is where most of a larger firm's missed calls sit.
emergency ack
Hi Dana, Cedarline Roofing has this and is treating it as urgent. Stay off the roof. If anyone is in danger, call 911.
After a spring storm or an ice dam, homeowners climb up to look. This is the one instruction a roofer would give on the phone, given by text instead.
Questions Ohio owners ask
- Are you actually in Ohio?
- Yes. The company is registered in Fremont and we work around Sandusky. Every business is set up by us directly rather than through a self-serve wizard, so you can reach the person who configured yours.
- We have an office. Why would we need this?
- For the calls the office does not take: evenings, weekends, lunch, and the third call while two people are already on the phone. You can set your phones to ring first and the assistant to take only what goes unanswered.
- Does Ohio law let it record calls?
- Ohio allows one party to record, but the assistant does not record audio in any state. It keeps a written transcript, and it says so at the start of the call.
